Kānuka Leaf (Kunzea ericoides)

Native to Aotearoa New Zealand

Kānuka is a native New Zealand plant closely related to mānuka but distinct in both form and flavour. Recognised for its softer leaves and small white flowers, kānuka produces a naturally aromatic herbal infusion, essential oil and other products from its leaves.

At Native Tree Farm, our kānuka leaf is cultivated under certified organic practices as part of our focus on New Zealand native botanicals.

What Is Kānuka Leaf?

Kānuka grows throughout many regions of New Zealand and is commonly found in regenerating native landscapes. It is identifiable by its soft brighter green leaves and clusters of small white flowers.

Historically recognised within Māori tradition, kānuka holds an established place within New Zealand's native plant heritage.

As a tea, kānuka leaf offers an aromatic, floral profile with a strong and expressive herbal character.  It brings depth of flavour and floral aroma to herbal tea blends.

Why It Matters

Although often compared to mānuka, kānuka stands as a botanical in its own right. Its flavour is more pronounced, delivering bold depth and floral intensity.

For us, cultivating kānuka reflects a commitment to showcasing the diversity within New Zealand's native species under certified organic standards.

How We Work With It

Our kānuka leaf is cultivated under certified organic standards and harvested with care to preserve its aromatic qualities.

Leaves are gently dried and minimally processed before being prepared for infusion, distilling or blending.

Organic certification supports traceability and responsible cultivation of native New Zealand plants.
