What Are Edible Flower Petals?

Edible flower petals are the selected parts of flowers used as a food ingredient. They are used in small amounts to introduce colour, contrast, and subtle, elegant plant character.

They are not used as a primary ingredient, but as a supporting component within a dish or blend.

How Are Edible Flower Petals Used?

Edible flower petals are used in controlled quantities depending on the application.

Common uses include:

  • Added to herbal teas and loose leaf blends
  • Used as a garnish on desserts and plated food
  • Mixed into salts, sugars, or dry blends
  • Added into ice cubes

The role of the petal is to complement, not dominate. If you are looking to work with edible petals you can find our organic petal range HERE.

Preparation

Fresh flowers are short-lived and vary depending on season and handling.

Dried petals provide a stable format that can be stored and used when they are needed. This allows for consistency in both appearance and application.

Because the petals are dried, they can be measured and used in small, repeatable amounts. On cup cakes 1-3 petals per cake is all that is needed as a topping.

Our dried petals are:

  • Certified organic
  • Grown in New Zealand
  • Hand harvested
  • Multiple natural colours
  • Prepared as dried petals

Each batch is grown, harvested, and processed onsite rather than imported or repacked.

Grown onsite in New Zealand

This allows control over:

  • Growing conditions
  • Harvest timing
  • Drying process

The result is a traceable ingredient prepared for food use.
